We featured Jonny Castro Art recently on Ten Two News to highlight his tribute to Rockford Illinois Police Department Officer Jaimie Cox. (www.tentwonews.com/philly-pd-artists-portrait-honors-fallen-rockford-officer/)

It's only fitting we share his most recent work - a portrait of Chicago Police Department Commander Paul Bauer who died in the line of duty last week.

On February 13th, Chicago Police Officers attempted to stop a male for investigation near the Thompson Center in Downtown Chicago. As the officers approached, the suspect immediately fled the location on foot. After the officers lost sight of the male, his description and direction of travel was relayed over police radio. Commander Paul Bauer was in the area for a meeting and observed the suspect run past him. He exited his vehicle and engaged the male in a foot pursuit. Paul caught up with the male at the top of a stairwell and attempted to detain him. A violent struggle ensued between the two and they fell to the landing at the bottom of the steps. The suspect, a four-time convicted felon who was wearing body armor, pulled out a gun and fatally shot Paul 6 times at close range. Commander Paul Bauer was a husband, a father and a 31 year veteran of the Chicago Police Department. Thousands packed the streets at his funeral procession to pay their respects, including officers from over 400 different departments across the country.
